Thanksgiving, Christmas & Sales 

November to February


One of the world’s greatest capital cities, Washington, DC is an ideal city break destination in the winter months. Join the fun and celebrations on the last Thursday of the month in November when the USA celebrate Thanksgiving day, the very next day the sales start so you will be sure to find huge savings on shopping across the city. Then the city's decorations start to go up for the Christmas holidays. Since 1923, the United States has held a tradition of lighting a National Christmas Tree in Washington, DC.  The Annual lighting ceremony is held normally in the first few days of December and conducted by the President & first lady along with many musical performances by local choirs and familiar artists. The National Christmas Tree and the Pathway of Peace is illuminated each evening from dusk until 11 p.m. until January 1st.   After an amazing fireworks display in the Capital to celebrate the New Year it's time for a strong coffee and time to hit the shops to grab a bargain in the January sales.

2012 marked the 100th celebration of the original gift of the 3,000 cherry trees by the city of Tokyo to the people of Washington, DC in 1912. The festival is more than just a showcase for the beautiful flowering trees on the Tidal Basin. The two-week citywide schedule of events features diverse programming incorporating the best of Washington, DC's arts, culinary and recreational attractions complemented by elements of Japanese culture and tradition.
